Stop in and learn some great tips on how to make music on your own, your own way, without having to drop a ton of coin!
Whether it’s just a hobby or you want to make a career out of it, creating your own music is such an amazing thing to do. Channeling your creativity into your music and coming out with a great track is an incredible feeling, but so many people think that they can’t do it because of the cost. When you think of making music, you’re probably picturing expensive recording studios, loads of instruments and high level editing software, which most people simply can’t afford. But new technology means that it’s easier than ever to make your own music at home without having to spend a lot of money. If you’re passionate about creating your own music but you don’t think you can do it without loads of money to pour into expensive equipment, think again. Here’s how you can create your own music on a tight budget.
Free Recording Software
There are some pieces of really expensive recording software out there that you’ll find in a professional studio, but you don’t really need to use them to make great music. There are plenty of pieces of free software out there that have all of the features that you need to record a good track. Garage Band comes as standard on all Apple computers and it’s a great piece of software. It might not have all of the features that you’ll get on paid software but it’s still a pretty extensive program and you can record some great music on it.
Samples
If you’re creating electronic music and you want to use samples, that can be incredibly expensive. You’re not going to be able to afford to use samples from commercial records because the royalties will be massive. But the thing is, you don’t need to pay for samples at all if you don’t want to. There are plenty of sites where you can find royalty free classical music that you can use for string samples or drum loops that you can chop up to make beats. If you’re using royalty free music for all of your samples, you don’t need to spend anything at all.
Producers
If you want your music to sound polished, you’ll need a producer to work with you on it. Most people assume that they’re going to charge a massive fee that you can’t afford, which is true in some cases. However, there are a lot of producers that are just starting out and they’re looking for experience. If you can connect with those people, they’ll be willing to work for a relatively low fee.
Distributing
When it comes to distributing your own music once it’s finished, most people assume that you’ll need a record deal, but that’s not the way that the industry works anymore. In fact, most people who find success are already distributing their music themselves before a record company takes notice and signs them. You can release your music on platforms like Soundcloud and YouTube and start building a fan base without the help of a record company.
In the past, you would need a lot of money or the backing of a record label to create and distribute your own music but it doesn’t have to be that way anymore.
