About The Book:
“A powerful, raw and vulnerable read.”—Olivia Munn, actress, The Newsroom
“Unflinchingly candid. Unspeakably sexy. And oh, so curiously entertaining.”—Steve Antin, Golden Globe winner, Burlesque
Imagine if Sex and the City’s Samantha discovered she was an addict and her drug of choice was MEN. Go on a hilarious, inspiring, and at times, shocking journey as Roxanne conquers her fears, changes her ways, gets closer to healthy relationships and begins loving herself a little more each day.
After years of working as an image-obsessed actress in Hollywood, Roxanne finds herself at rock bottom from a disease that is anything but glamorous.
In her first year of recovery, Roxanne has to take accountability for her past. From tales of being mistaken for a prostitute at the Hotel Bel-Air to botching a threesome attempt with an A-list celebrity, she must face the truth about herself and stop playing the victim.
Roxanne’s odyssey of using sex and love—as destructive and beguiling as an alcoholic reaching for a bottle—is a veritable rollercoaster of ups and downs, laughter and tears, and a true testament to facing your absolute truth and conquering your fears.
Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict has the vibrant, relatable vibe of chick lit, the soul-baring honesty of a memoir and the wisdom of a self-help book.
So take a front-row seat into this complex world and the 10 RULES Roxanne learns along the way.
“Actress Brianne Davis takes us behind the glitz and glamour for a brutally candid, no-holds-barred look at Tinseltown’s forever-favorite addiction: sex. You’ll cry… and laugh… as you join her harrowing and hilarious ride to sex-addiction sobriety.” —Spencer Beck, former editor-in-chief of LA Confidential, editor-in-chief Los Angeles and contributing editor at Vanity Fair
“Brianne tells the story of navigating a world where sex and beauty are commodities to be used and abused by those who have the power. Like Sex and the City, this is a tale of finding one’s self and reasserting a true feminist ideal: that your destiny is yours to create.” —Lucy Danziger, New York Times best-selling author of The Nine Rooms of Happiness and former editor-in-chief of SELF
“It takes a lot of courage to do what Brianne is doing in this book. To mirror her life into Roxanne is not only fearless, but wildly entertaining. It’s a world with so much darkness, yet Brianne has not only found the humor but the story to bring it to life because lets face it, we all want to know more.” —Jana Kramer, singer, actress on One Tree Hill, and New York Times best-selling author of The Good Fight
The Top 5 No-Go movies for Sex and Love Addicts
Many Sex and love addicts can’t watch certain movies. We call it the NO-Go list. When I started the Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous program eleven years ago, I had no idea that movies would transport me into complete fantasy. As a fantasy and intrigue addict, that is not a place I’m allowed to live anymore. Roxanne, the anti-heroine of my novel Secret Life of a Hollywood Sex & Love Addict, has the same problem. Here is our list of No-Go movies! Enjoy the plight.
- THE NOTEBOOK
Come on! Obviously, you can understand why the Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams romantic love story would be number 1 on the list. This movie is the ultimate fantasy for any red-blooded female. I mean, don’t we all dream of our first love writing us every day for a year to later find each other again, but it be all complicated and dramatic? That we would have to choose between two handsome fellas pining over us? Not to mention the ridiculous rain scene. I get into that much more in the book! Let’s just say it can really mess up your week if you watch this film.
- PRETTY WOMAN
Another full-blooded-fantasy-ride where a handsome, rich, and sweet business mogul will save us from poverty and, of course, prostitution. Yeah, the one who loves us for who we really are underneath that fake hair, black hat and slutty dress. Yes, I’m talking to all of us with those hair extensions, including myself. I mean, it’s the classic white knight saving syndrome. I mean, who doesn’t want to get saved and then move into the Beverly Wilshire Hotel with all-you-can-eat room service? Sign me up!
- MOULIN ROUGE
Ahh, who hasn’t dreamt about living in Paris in 1900 as a courtesan/singer? The glitz and glamour of that time period while dancing around singing cover songs from past popular hits. Now that sounds like a fun fantasy to live in—except the bleeding-of-the-mouth, tuberculosis death at the end part—that piece I could do without. The rest of the movie is one big singing extravaganza: all the love songs, flashy costumes with corseted tiny waistlines. Plus, the forbidden love story of Satine and Christian. The tagline reading “love that will live forever.” Yep, not unhealthy at all!
- THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS
Come on, who doesn’t want to be beautifully lit by sunsets and those stunning mountain ranges in the background? On top of that, the most flawlessly created booming orchestral score in any motion picture. I wish the composers Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman would create the soundtrack to my life. Every time I hear similar drumming, my heart skips a beat. I start to feel all that unbridled passion between Hawkeye and Cora. The characters played by Daniel Day-Lewis and Madeleine Stowe—all that sweat, running and heavy breathing gets me every time. And yes, get me a man that would recite those famous lines before jumping out off a waterfall —“No! You stay alive! Submit, do you hear? You’re strong; you survive. You stay alive, no matter what occurs! I will find you. No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you . . .” Panty dropper every time!
- ROMEO AND JULIET
I’m specifically talking about the 1968 version with Michael White’s mouthwatering butt. But this can count for the Leonardo DiCaprio version from 1996. Listen, this one is a huge NO-NO for me. Even though I grew up watching a bunch of Shakespeare plays and movies. This movie left a mark on my psyche. I truly believed that real love had to have a nice tushy and one or both lovers had to be willing to kill themselves with poison or a knife in the chest. Really, that true love had to be so forbidden and dramatic someone had to die for it. Let’s just say my therapist had a field day breaking down the damaging negative imprints that this movie instilled in me.
