Amy Poehler and Tina Fey co-hosting the 2013 Golden Globes!

NBC, Dick Clark Productions, and the Hollywood Foreign Press announced on October 15th that our favorite comedienne duo will be co-hosting the 70th Annual Golden Globes.

This is probably the best news I’ve heard in a long time. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler will be co-hosting the 70th annual Golden Globes next year, and I can’t wait. Why has it taken them this long? Not only are they both ridiculously hilarious on their own, but together…. together they are untouchable. Did no one see Baby Mama? Or even Mean Girls? These are two of the funniest women on television. Their skits on Saturday Night Live are still my favorites, even though it’s been years since they’ve been on together. While I happen to be a fan of Ricky Gervais, who hosted the Globes the past three years, there’s not doubt in my mind that these two will a phenomenal job. I don’t want to be all biased and say that they’ll do much better than Ricky, but that’s exactly what I’m thinking.

So what took so long? Are they trying to compete with the Academy Awards choosing to have funny-man Seth McFarlane host at next year’s ceremonies? Both women have hit comedy’s on NBC, with 30 Rock currently airing their final season, so it makes sense for them to host an award show on NBC. At every award show they manage to stir up buzz with some sort of funny antic, so I just don’t know why no one thought of having them host an award show before. I really can’t think of anything that the two of them have done together that hasn’t been hysterical.

There’s been some talk about the Academy Awards and the Globes trying to start a bit of an award show battle for ratings, but does it really matter? I’m going to watch both, and I would watch both even if they had a bunch of randoms running around the stage. People who watch awards shows either typically watch them all, or only watch the ones that they care about, and who the hosts are typically don’t matter. As someone who loves award shows more than… well…. most things, I’m definitely excited that both shows have such funny hosts. Though I do worry that Seth’s humor won’t fit with the seriousness of the Academy Awards. I definitely think that Amy and Tina were the better picks for co-hosts of the Globes, and it’ll be interesting to see how this “ratings battle” plays out. While they fight it out, I’ll just patiently wait for nominations. Though if we’re being honest, patience has never been my strong suit.

The Golden Globes will air January 13th, and the Academy Awards will air on February 24th.
