Simultaneously infuriating and sexy (complimentary) – A Cage of Tenderness And Torment had me on the edge of my seat, and is officially out now! Rating: 4.5 stars.
Book Title: A Cage of Tenderness and Torment
Author: Julia Sykes
Genre: Dark Romance
Release Date: March 11, 2026
Abducted. Drugged. Broken.
I am plaything, a possession. If I did ever have a name, I don’t remember it now. Slaves don’t have names. My new Master rescued me and took me into his care. He protects me from the sadistic madman who is determined to steal me back from him.
Master’s touch keeps me sane. His control keeps me grounded in reality.
I am utterly devoted to my savior, but his brand of rescue might leave me more broken than ever.
Do I have a hope of finding freedom when he refuses to release my heart?
Or is this new form of captivity exactly what I need to survive?
Please note that A Cage of Tenderness and Torment was previously released under the title Knight.
This was so good. I ate this the fuck up. This was heartbreaking, and fascinating. The (eventual) healthy kink talk is so needed, and a lot of it was really well done. Simultaneously sexy and infuriating (complimentary). There was a lot going on and the pacing was perfect.
My only little thing taking off a half star is that I do feel they entered their dynamic a little soon. I was screaming at the kindle for them to get her into therapy sooner, and I’m still not sure why it took them so long. And then it got a little repetitive as well in a few moments. But really, I had a great time from start to finish. Enough so, that I am determined to work through all of Julia Sykes backlog.
Definitely check the trigger warnings for this. It is dark, and it is heavy. But I thoroughly enjoyed this.
TROPES:
– amnesia
– touch her and die
– forced proximity
– BDSM + Kink
– hurt x comfort
– forbidden love
– morally grey characters
