Do you run your own business? Do you scroll through the posts in this blog and think to yourself “Oh man, that looks like fun… But where would I ever find the time?” If this sounds achingly familiar to you, you owe it to yourself to make the time… not just for yourself but for your enterprise. Running your own business is a highly involved and stressful endeavor and if you’re not careful you can find yourself burning out due to stress and exhaustion. When this happens, your decision-making abilities are compromised, your efficiency and productivity drop through the floor and you become more of a hindrance to your employees than a help. Here we’ll look at some simple ways in which you can claw back a little of your precious time for yourself and suggest some fun, entertaining and stress relieving activities that will help you to return to your business, refreshed and reinvigorated, having won back some essential work / life balance.

Making The Time

Most entrepreneurs insist that making time for themselves is all but impossible, but it can be a lot easier than you think. If you’re the kind of helicopter entrepreneur that insists on micromanaging everything, you probably feel that without you, your business will crumble and fall. The simple truth, however, is that you just need to get better at delegating. If you have invested your time, money and effort into training your employees, they will be more than capable enough to hold the fort while you recharge your batteries. If you feel that your business is taking on a little too much, outsourcing things like your IT support, marketing and HR functions can be a great way of lightening the load. Even if it’s just an hour a day, three or four times a week, a little you time can be a real tonic, and one that’s worth fighting for.

Video Games

There’s no greater tonic for a busy mind that’s juggling half a dozen problems at any given time than focusing on just one task. Video games get a bad rep but they can be surprisingly therapeutic as well as having some surprising cognitive benefits. Plus, let’s be honest, whaling on ninjas in feudal Japan or gunning down aliens on some far off planet is a great way to let off steam and immerse yourself in a rich fantasy world.

Fishing

When the constant ring of the phone and the chime of the email alert are the soundtrack to your life, a little solitude can go a long way. Taking yourself on a fishing trip is not only a great way to relieve stress and improve your mental health by communing with nature, it can give you some much-needed quiet time to yourself. Plus, you’ll have a nutritious, brain healthy meal to take home with you.

Boxing

Day by day, week by week, month by month, all of that stress can build up and if you don’t take steps to relieve it, it can erupt in some ugly and damaging ways. Fortunately, nothing relieves stress like punching the Hell out of a bag. It’s also a fantastic cardiovascular workout and a great way to improve your health, fitness and wellbeing.
