While that might be dramatic if you take a second to look at the cost of downtime due to one or more pieces of equipment being out of use or the costs of replacing parts, etc., due to the equipment not performing correctly, you can get an idea of how big of an impact this will have on your business.

While this isn’t likely to happen on a regular basis, downtime at any time that isn’t planned can have huge implications for you financially and for your reputation, too. This post will look at a few reasons why you need a preventative maintenance plan to keep things running as they should.

Reduced Downtime

Downtime isn’t always bad, but unplanned downtime can be a huge inconvenience. If you’re unaware something is going to breakdown you can find yourself chasing your tail scrambling to get things back up and running. However, with a maintenance plan in place, you will be in control of the current status of all of your equipment, be able to record issues, order the right parts, schedule repairs and downtime and accommodate this into your daily routines so you can keep up with production.

Increased Production

Time is money, right? You want your equipment to work at full speed. If your equipment and machinery can run efficiently, then it can produce more repeatedly. However, this can’t happen if there are neglected repairs or parts that aren’t well cared for. For example, moving parts that require regular lubrication won’t be as proactive if the lubrication isn’t topped up or kept at required levels.

Increased Safety

If you’re on top of your maintenance and aware of the status of your machinery and all equipment, then you will know it is safe to use and won’t experience any mechanical failures that can pose a risk to users or those within the vicinity. This meticulous approach can provide you with peace of mind, enabling you to check at a glance the condition everything is in, ensure you have correct stock levels of things like oils or Anti-Seize Lubricant and spare parts that need to be replaced frequently, like bulbs, etc so that if you do need to top up or change a part you have it ready to go so safety isn’t compromised.

Increased Reliability

Your equipment needs to be reliable, and you as a business also need to be reliable. If you experience frequent failures and excessive downtime, your clients cannot trust you to deliver what they need when they need it. This can lead to a breakdown in relationships and a poor reputation due to not being reliable.

Preventative maintenance removes uncertainty from using your equipment. With a plan in place, you can trust that your equipment will perform as it should, day in and day out, providing you with a sense of security and confidence in your operations.
